Jigimy:

Since quite a few have stepped outside the Inn, I go over to stand in the doorway. I look for the others out there.

If I heard Erdath shout, I'll make sure I locate the stranger nearby.

You too see Path walk over to the stables...

When the mist-man is still a few steps away from the stable's door [the place you visited earlier, remember that!] a terrible howl can be heard from the nearby forest... and changes into a child's crying as Path, with trembling hands, reaches the door...

Path suddenly notices that he is standing in a puddle of blood... He cannot tell it from the colour, but only he does smell it...

Draussa, although standing far away, will immediately recognize the scent as well...

Sven and Mant will also hear the frightful howl...

Mant breaks down and falls on his knees.

"That's my sister... Oh almighty gods..." He can barely speak, so hard does the pain seem to torment him.

[I assume that I am in Arecia's room when Mant breaks down.]
I will scan the room to check what progress he has made in gathering things (I believe that Jigimy and I had them organized already - we just got interupted before we could pick them up). Try to get Kyvaryn's pack over my left shoulder. Blankets to my left arm as well (I assume that my own backpack, crossbow and shield are on my back). Then I will gently put my right hand on his shoulder and try to comfort him for a few moments before saying "It's time we were going. Bring only what you think is important for you or your family..."

With no immediate danger outside, and seeing Path toward the stable, I will rush over to help Path. Weaving through others asI pass by if needs be.

I barrage Path with questions.

"Path, are you ok? Is that your blood? Who was that crying in the forest? How can I help? Please, let me help you if I can."

At this point Jigimy basically doesn't care that he is hurt. He's tired of being scared.

Path's hands are still slowly reaching for the door. They seem to caress the door gently before he falls on his knees, right in the middle of the puddle of blood.

He opens his mouth to speak, but his throat is so dry that he can't say a word.
He swallows hard before tears start running over his cheeks. His hands move towards his head so that he can hide his face in them.

"...don't.." He sniffles. "..don't kill me.."
He's hard to understand with his face buried in his palms.
"..what's going on.. just tell me what's going on..."

Jigimy drops to one knee beside Path, and gently places a hand on his back, rubbing gently. Leaning in closer, with a quiet soothing voice....

"Path.....it's ok, it's Jigimy. I'm here to help you. But I can't if you won't talk to me. Tell me how I can help."

Having just realized that Arecia's room over looks the back of the inn which I was unable to see from the main level, I will step over by the window and look out to see what I can of what is happening in the back of the building before Mant and I leave to head down stairs.

Erdath follows Jigimy knowing that he can't take much more abuse. I will scan the courtyard as we go over to Path.

The backyard of the inn appears empty, except for the many black footprints the undead have left there - the only proove that they were there...

Steppin near the window, you suddenly can see a flash of light back from the opposite side of the house... The innyard, where the others are...

[This was Raskal, of course.]

Gila, the scarred asssasin called the Bloodeye, steps down the broken stairs, drawing his two daggers.

He puts himself between Draussa and Mandle.

"Volketh" he whispers, ready to attack the newcomer.

Erdath and Jigimy arrive where Path is.

See my mother...

The voice seems to come from near.

And the door of the ruined stable swings open.

Behind it, darkness...

And then, a flash of light from the sky!

Like a lightning - and Jigimy and Path, like paralyzed, can only watch a horrible creature flying out of the dark and ruined hut and plunge on Erdath. [DAM 3 for Erdath.]

Howling like a wolf, the monstrosity takes up Erdath's battered body and throws him through the air against the inn's wall. [DAM 2... You're conscious, but cannot move for two turns...]

Image

[EDITED BY DES: Changed the photo of the monster from HEROES OF HORROR for the real one from the PENUMBRA FANTASY BESTIARY. Stay away from those books!]

"What was that flash? Mant, we need to get down stairs. Come on."
I assume that Mant is ready, since you didn't mention anything about him. Head down the stairs making sure Mant follows. Who is still in the main room? Joseph's remaining family? Anyone else? I will give blankets to Joseph's wife, son and surviving daughter to keep them warm outside.

Am I aware that Path is outside? If not, I will head to the cellar to free him from the grave and bring him along. Otherwise, I will try to lead everyone who is left inside out the door to join the rest of the party.

Jigimy hits the deck as the creature screams out the door. He looks back in horror as Erdath is thrown at the Inn wall....

"ERDATH!!!....."

I sprint over to him to see if he is still alive, looking upward to find the new enemy. When I arrive at Erdath I alternate between checking him & watching the sky looking for the creature. I hold my club up to defend us. "Erdath...are you still alive?"

Mandle rectifies and leaves its divine symbol.
- In the name of Volketh, obeyed my voice and my hand, creature

Mandle using all of his will, try to command or rebuke the monstrosity.

in a weak voice "yes, i'm still alive, but hurt extremely badly." Erdath looks to be on the edges of consciousness. After a few minutes he tries to stand up. "Where did that hell beast go?"

Kyvaryn and Rotfoot are still in the main room with Joseph last living family members. The mercenaries, eager to get out of the door and to follow Kalen and Gila, block the way outside for the next few seconds. - Through the opened door, one can see the shie of unnatural light from the yard.

The mercenaries didn't mention that Path was still alive, but Sven might indeed have heard them saying. - So, it's up to you... Smile

[Hehehe. Misconception. The monster is still there...]

Against the light of the moon, one can see the shadow of the wraith like hanging in the cold air of the night, before it launches itself against you again.

Another flash of light, and the next thing one can see is the monstrosity standing in front of the open door of the stable, Path's beaten body in one, the lifeless body of the innkeeper in her other claw... [Path: No Damage, but fear check...]

Following your prayer, the ground on which the beast stands, seems to carbonize, but the beast stays unharmed.

All over the innyard and in the house, the whispering voice of a child can be heard in the wind...

Arrogant mortals... You... Should worship... me... But then... why doesn't that... Pain... go...
